Flying in Gavarnie Gèdre

Presentation:
Historic Gavarnie: cradle of the Pyrenees, world heritage of U.N.E.C.O, the glacial circus excellence.

It is an amphitheater surrounded by vertical walls delimited by a barrier of peaks of more than 3000 m.
There is not enough word to qualify this site so much it inspired generations of mountaineer of any style.
Climbers, hikers, skiers, botanists, geologists, artists mingle in front of the grandiose landscape.
In the past, paragliders were present on Gavarnie but practices that were not respectful of the site (proximity to the National Park, horses on the way to the circus etc ...) led the town to take a decree prohibiting any practice of free flight.

Today, the club "Pailhères Volantes", one of the oldest paragliding club of the Pyrenees and in collaboration with:
- the commune of Gavarnie,
- the General Council of Hautes-Pyrénées,
- the Fédération Française de Vol Libre and the Comité Départemental de Vol Libre,
- the Pyrenees National Park,
Open and allow the regulated practice of free flight on the municipal territory of Gavarnie.

Gavarnie sensitive site:
The flight site is subject to very strict regulations applied to our practice.

The site is under surveillance and offenders can be verbalized.

To allow important and necessary information, the flight is authorized to all pilots under conditions to register with the "Gîte Oxygène" and to remove a numbered badge as well as a fascicule of information on the zones of flight.
The sustainability of our flight sites is everyone's business and we thank you for respecting and enforcing the regulations so that we can continue to fly on our exceptional sites.
